Sheriff Of Nottingham Reviews Game Contents VideoSHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM -- Board Game Review -- Niki Camacho Prince John is going to Nottingham! Players take the roles of merchants to gain profits by selling goods in the city while Prince is here. But at first, players must get their goods through the city gate which is guarded by the Sheriff of Nottingham. In previous reviews, we’ve discussed the idea of a “distilled” game – that is, a game that takes one mechanism and distills it down to its purest form, and leaves everything else out of it. For Sale is the distilled auction game, Coup is distilled bluffing. Sheriff of Nottingham does the same for negotiation. 10/10/ · In Sheriff of Nottingham players are essentially trying to collect sets and the most of each set to score the most points. This is however made more difficult by the addition of the sheriff. In Sheriff of Nottingham there are two types of goods, legal goods like apples and bread and illegal goods like alcohol and crossbows. Sheriff of Nottingham Review | Board Game Halv Sheriff is a great party game for those who want a little more classic strategy in their party games but still want that rousing conversation. Sure it may get a little old after many many games, but those first few are gold. Merry Men is a very mixed bag (no pun intended!:)) for me! On the one hand, the expansion is all but MANDITORY because of two of the six modules. These two modules fix Sherriff of Nottingham's biggest design flaw (i.e. it's too easy to win by playing % honest and a somewhat weak theme). The Philip Marks, the Sheriff of Nottingham, the main character in the story, did live in those times, although there is no evidence that Robin Hood, also a major character in the book, did. Just one quote: "Say that he steals. Sheriff of Nottingham is a great game for 2 to 5 players. I would say you really need 3 minimum and 4 or 5 would be ideal. Try to move goods across the land while each of you takes a turn being the Sheriff. Do you tell the truth that you are moving 3 wheels of Cheese or do you smuggle a Crossbow in with them and try to earn a few bonus points???. This game is incredibly fun! Nicely paced and fun. Everything is very clearly defined— you know when a deal is binding. Those restrictions serve to erase confusion and make the goals of the game very clear.
Yet they still allow creativity in how you approach your sheriff. Do you pack a perfect set and then pretend to try and bribe the sheriff? Do you pack your bags full and slip only one or two illegal goods?
Trying to figure out new ways to maximize your points is what keeps the game fresh. While there are many ways to approach the game as a merchant or as the sheriff, there are not infinite ways — and you will most likely use them all in a single game.
In a comparable social game, such as One Night Ultimate Werewolf, replay value comes in the different roles, and that you will only play as 1 role each game.
What about the different mixes of roles and how that changes the game? The components are pretty good — the thick cardboard coin tokens are very nice, and the player boards are laid out cleanly with fun art depicting the snotty, arrogant merchants on them.
More importantly, the cards are easy to read with the goods clearly depicted and the value and penalty numbers are visible from across the table.
The bags are fantastic. Brightly colored and made of felt, they fit your cards perfectly and snap shut cleanly. It adds a lot to the experience of the game to have these beautiful, tactile bags to stuff your goods into.
The coins are separated into types and deep enough so that in general the coins stay in the tray, and the second for the cards is divided into 3 parts so you can have a draw pile and two discard piles.
Sheriff of Nottingham is a very clever game that does an excellent job of streamlining its primary mechanism — bribery — down to a pure and accessible form.
Even your most innocent friends will be bribing and bluffing their way to riches in the time it takes to pack a small felt bag with a handful of cards.
Futurewolfie loves epic games, space, and epic games set in space. Some players found the game difficult to relate to and they found that as the game went on, they had no idea who was winning.
Overall, this is a great game to bring people together where they have to lie, deceive and act their way through the game.
The idea is simple and the gameplay is just as easy and that makes it appealing to children who love the idea of having to cheat to get past a player.
Sheriff of Nottingham is a super cool board game that we bought last year and, we was not disappointed. It is very easy to learn, can be played over again without getting the same same feeling and it requires some strategy without too much complexity.
My son is aged 10 and daughter is 11 and the learning curve was not a problem and they loved this more than many other board games we bought the previous few years.
It is quite hard to find a game that pleases us adults and the children and, keep us pulling it back out again for another session.
The bluffing aspect is dads favorite as he is a bluffer in general. Would recommend for the families. Your email address will not be published.

As the title makes clear, the narrative is told principally from the perspective of our Sheriff and the how and why of Robin Hood showing up is only one of his numerous challenges over the time covered by the novel.
Our hero is war veteran, sheriff, husband, father, legal guardian and his roles are not always clear or compatible with each other or with his desired goals.
The book seemed to me to be a bit long for what I was getting, in great part a reflection upon how many other narratives of the life of Robin Hood have been shared by authors over the years.
It has to be very challenging to contend not only with the historical Robin Hood and Sheriff of Nottingham even with as little as we know for certainty about them but to also compete with the myriad mythical Robins and Sheriffs may have stretched my credulity and patience too far to fully appreciate this effort.
Your mileage may vary and this story does have a little bit of historical detail going for it. Sort by. Top reviews Most recent Top reviews.

He draws from all social levels to bring Nottingham and Thirteenth Century England to life. If you enjoy reading about this time period, you will appreciate this novel.
However, the plot itself never really finds its balance. The Sheriff himself is a fine role model, but lacks character growth and development; although the reader might cheer for him as a pillar of moral fortitude in a tumultuous time, there is no success or finale for him to achieve by the end.
If anything, his success is that he kept himself alive and in office for so long against such odds. This is very rewarding in a real-life sense, but in the novel it gives a feel of aimlessness.
Therefore the book takes on an episodic style. Various problems occur, the sheriff is offered the low road, chooses the high road, and moves to the next dilemma.
This game is special for us because some tragic event happened while we were making this review. You can support the developers of this game and buy it on Amazon and praise the memory of Alan Rickman!
